Book early. Car hire prices, especially at popular airports during peak season, climb sharply as availability shrinks. Booking 4 to 8 weeks ahead usually gives a better price than waiting until the last minute.
Read the included mileage and fuel policy. The cheapest rate often has limited mileage or a less convenient fuel policy that can become expensive on a longer trip. A slightly higher rate with unlimited miles and full to full fuel is often the better deal.
Bring the credit card used for booking and your driving licence in the name of the main driver. Take photos of the car at pickup and drop-off to document any existing damage. Choosing a supplier with a strong rating typically means faster pickup and fewer issues at the counter.
